Compassion Is Strength

Many people see compassion as a weakness. I see it differently.

Compassion takes courage. It takes strength to care when it would

be easier not to. It takes strength to stand up to those who cannot

stand up for themselves.

In a world of hyper-masculinity, compassion is often seen as a

weaknes. I see it differtly. Compassion is strength.

Many in this world—people, animals, and even the environment—

need caring and compassion to thrive. Not everyone can

speak for themselves, and this is where Compassio has a place at

the table.

My belief in compassion didn't come from reading a book. It came

from experience. I have seen the damage that cruelty, addiction and,

indifference can cause. I have also seen the healing power of kindness,

understanding, and second chances. Those experiences helped shape

both my life and the vision behind Compassio.

I cam from an alcoholic family, which had a profound effect on my person

ality and self-esteem. It affects all family members adversily. Eventually,

I realized I was also an alcoholic, which ruined my marriage. Despite my

struggles, I was able to remain an involved father, and today my son

is thriving. After many periods of sobriety and relapses, I eventually found

sobriety once again.

Animals have always been part of my life after having a dog as a teenager

and numerous cats growing up. Cats have a special place in my heart.

Perhaps because they aren't as apprciated as much as dogs. They are

also very independent and mysterious, which I find intriquing. Since animals

don't have a voice and can't speak for themselves, I've decided to be the

voice for them.

Since retiring in 2015, I decided to start a business which I've wanted

to do for decades. I have the time and desire to do something that has

meaning and purpose which was out of reach to me as a younger person.

I feel that now is the perfect time to give back and help in my own small way

to help those who can't speak for themselves. The journey is just begining.
